Religious Education

At Shakespeare Infant School, we believe Religious Education should engage, inspire and challenge children, encouraging them to explore the diverse beliefs, values and traditions that shape our world. Through RE, children develop the knowledge and understanding needed to ask thoughtful questions, appreciate different perspectives and develop respect for others in our multicultural society.

Children learn about a range of faiths and beliefs through the Hampshire Agreed Syllabus, Living Difference IV, with a particular focus on Christian and Sikh traditions. They are encouraged to explore similarities and differences between religions, develop an awareness of their own beliefs and values, and gain an understanding of the needs and feelings of others.

Learning is enriched through discussion, enquiry and reflection, allowing children to communicate their ideas, ask questions and make meaningful connections between their learning and their own experiences. Through high-quality talk and collaborative learning opportunities, children develop the confidence to express their views whilst respecting the viewpoints of others.

We value the religious backgrounds of all members of our school community and encourage children to learn from one another in an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding. Our close links with St Peter’s Church and the wider community help children to develop a deeper appreciation of faith and its role in people's lives.

Through Religious Education, we aim to support children's spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, helping them to become respectful, open-minded and reflective individuals who are well prepared for life in modern Britain and the wider world.
